The proposal is aimed at reducing the number of deaths caused by excessive drinking among young people in Thailand's nightlife scene. Thailand's nightclubs often sell high-strength beer as well as other potent drinks, including soju and rum. According to reports, many young patrons are drawn to these strong drinks due to their social pressure or excitement. In some cases, the alcohol content was found to be over 25%, much higher than in most Western countries where a standard beer typically has an ABV of around 4-5%. The Thai government is concerned that this trend poses a significant threat to public safety and is pushing forward with its plans to restrict the sale of these strong drinks. However, some industry experts are against the new law, citing concerns that it would affect business revenue.
