Portugal’s Prime Minister Emerges Amidst a Middle-of-the-Road Campaign  Antonio Costa has won the election to become Portugal's new prime minister after a middle-of-the-road performance in the presidential vote. During the campaign, Costa stated that he did not want to complicate the work of the government and instead focused on solving the country's big problems. He claimed that he was the only candidate who could cooperate with the two largest parties. Costa's movement has a large voter base, but he had no majority to pre-electorate the vote. When the votes were counted it was clear that the 69-year-old politician had won the election with 53.2% of the votes against the 38-year-old Socialist Party's new candidate Pedro Passos Coelho who received 30.7%. See article on SVT News.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Resigns Amidst Allegations of Interference   "Takaichi steps down as Japan's Foreign Minister and EU Cooperation Minister" A Japanese politician has been elected after being ousted as Foreign Minister and EU Cooperation Minister. Taro Kono briefly took over as Prime Minister in 2021 and had been responsible for Japan's foreign policy since December 2022. Takaichi has been accused by opposition parties of attempting to poison the government's decision to release a new strategy regarding China's challenges. He allegedly used the Chinese word "" to disrupt the government's decision.
