UFO author von Däniken dead. Author Erich von Däniken, who became famous for his theories about ancient visits from extraterrestrials, has died at the age of 90. von Däniken made his breakthrough in 1968 with his first book, 'Unsolved Mysteries of the Past,' in which he claimed that the ancient Egyptians and the Maya civilization were visited by aliens who taught them how to build pyramids.
The theories lack scientific support, but the books have still sold 60 million copies in 32 languages, reports AP. In 1991, he was awarded the satirical Ig Nobel Prize in Literature. See the article on SVT News.
