The U.S. Supreme Court blocks Trump's tariffs. Donald Trump overstepped his authority as president when he declared a national emergency and imposed tariffs on a number of countries. This was announced by the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday after the justices voted for the decision by 6–3.
According to the U.S. Constitution, tariffs and taxes must be approved by Congress. To impose tariffs on his own, Donald Trump used a law from 1977, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The law allows the president to declare a national emergency in connection with "unusual and extraordinary" foreign threats that could harm U.S. national security, foreign policy, or the economy.
