Syrian rebels: Now standing outside the big city of Homs. Syrian regime forces are reportedly leaving the strategically important city of Homs, on the outskirts of which the jihadist-led rebel forces are now located. Thousands of people are fleeing and Russia is urging its citizens to leave the country.
It was last week that the rebels took control of Aleppo in a lightning offensive without any major resistance from the Syrian government forces. Since then, they have continued to advance south. On Thursday, the Syrian regime's army confirmed that the rebel groups had taken over the country's fourth largest city, Hama, a few miles north of Homs. Watch the feature on SVT News.
Here, the crowd tears down the presidential statue in Syrian Hama. The city of Hama in Syria has been taken over by jihadist-led rebels. Images on social media, verified by the Reuters news agency, show a crowd in the city tearing down a statue of Hafez al-Assad, who was the country's president until his death in 2000.
