Concern in Venezuela over American attacks. On Saturday, the US is said to have attacked yet another boat off the coast of Venezuela, which allegedly was transporting drugs. Over 20 people have been killed in similar American attacks over the past weeks. From the American side, the attacks on the alleged drug boats have been described as an 'anti-terror operation' – but also as a 'non-international armed conflict' between the US and the organized criminals identified as targets, says SVT's US correspondent Carl Fridh Kleberg.– They have chosen to mix, to some extent, the same type of arguments that were previously used for terrorism and national security interests, but now with a focus on what they call 'narcoterrorism.' Suspected attempted murder of Ecuador's president. According to the Minister of Environment, Inés Manzano, 'there are also clear traces of bullets on the president's car.' Noboa is said to have escaped unharmed. The suspected shooting occurs after days of sometimes violent protests against a proposal to raise diesel prices in the country. However, the government blames drug cartels, which are fighting over control of the country's drug market, for being behind the unrest. See the report on SVT Nyheter and the report on TV4 Nyheter.
