Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil is released. Mahmoud Khalil was one of the leaders of the pro-Palestinian demonstrations against Israel's war in Gaza at Columbia University in New York. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security believes that the Trump administration acted within its authority when they detained Khalil, "just like it does with all foreigners who advocate violence, glorify and support terrorists, harass Jews, and damage property," the agency writes on X, and argues that an immigration judge, not a district judge, can decide whether Khalil should be released or retained.
