Green light for euthanasia in France. The French Constitutional Council has approved the law that grants the right to assisted death. The announcement came on Friday, and now it’s just a matter of President Emmanuel Macron signing the law.
The law, which has taken several years to develop and establishes the right to euthanasia, can now be enacted, the Constitutional Council of France says. Both assisted dying and euthanasia are now legal in France. The Constitutional Council’s decision "completes an exemplary democratic debate" and "provides an important guarantee for our citizens," the Élysée Palace writes.
The next step is for the country’s president, Emmanuel Macron, to sign the law, which he has fifteen days to do, Le Monde reports. Macron supports the decision, so the law is expected to come into effect in about two weeks. See the article on SVT Nyheter.
