Pagers exploded around Lebanon. At least nine people have been killed and nearly 3,000 injured after a wave of pagers exploded across Lebanon, most of them owned by members of Hezbollah. One by one, the searchers are said to have struck various places in Lebanon on Tuesday afternoon.
Surveillance footage shows, among other things, how a person at a fruit stand collapses after something at waist height explodes. In another clip, an object bangs at a checkout while a customer pays in a grocery store.
According to Reuters, the wave of explosions lasted for about an hour. In the meantime, ambulances drove in shuttle traffic to the hospitals, which in a short time were filled with hundreds of patients with injuries to the stomach, legs, hands and face. Watch the feature on SVT News.
Expert's theory: It could be behind the explosions in Lebanon. The pagers that exploded around Lebanon may have been prepared with some explosive. This is according to Bo Janzon, an expert on explosives. "This is something that has not been seen before," he says.
Pagers have previously been used to trigger explosive devices, but Bo Janzon is not aware of any case where the pager itself exploded."An explosive capsule contains about one gram of explosive, which is enough to blow off a hand or a finger," he says, adding that pagers are also often worn close to the chest.
