Palestinians trapped in their homes by settlers. Just over three weeks ago, Palestinian homes in the West Bank were besieged by settlers. The area is now classified as a military zone where the Israeli military prevents residents from leaving and outsiders from entering.
Louai Abu Ridi and the village of Qusra have received international attention and media channels from around the world have covered the siege, which began on August 9 with Israeli settlers setting up a tent on land belonging to the Abu Ridi family.
But settlers trying to take over Palestinian homes is not an isolated incident. In the neighboring village of Jaloud, the al-Tubasi family held out for 95 days before finally giving up due to the threatening situation. – We were trapped, a complete siege, a prison, Mahmoud al-Tubasi tells SVT Nyheter and continues: – We were without electricity, no water and no food. EU criticism of Israel's settlement policy. Criticism of Israel is growing among several EU countries, partly as a result of high-profile statements by Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. At the same time, the countries do not agree on sanctions against the country's settlement policy.
At the end of August, Ben-Gvir also showed off what will become an execution facility with gallows on social media - where Palestinians sentenced to death will be executed. This after promising to worsen conditions for "terrorists" in Israeli prisons.
