FT: Assad flew $250 million to Russia. Bashar al-Assad transported $250 million to Russia via the Syrian central bank between 2018 and 2019, according to documents obtained by the Financial Times. According to the newspaper, it was cash that together weighed almost two tons. Once in Russia, they are said to have been deposited in sanctioned Russian banks. The transfers are said to have taken place at the same time as Assad's family members secretly bought, among other things, luxury apartments in Russia, according to FT.
