Prosecutors want to drop charges against Donald Trump. Special Prosecutor Jack Smith filed a request on Monday to drop several charges against the president-elect. Now a judge has approved to close the cases.
Trump was charged with four felonies that involved trying to have the 2020 election results invalidated and the storming of the Capitol.
Another indictment was about Trump's storage of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, after his time in the White House.
Jack Smith and his team have been working for some time to drop the charges after Trump was elected president. "It has long been the position of the Department of Justice that the United States Constitution prohibits federal prosecution and subsequent prosecution of a sitting president," the document reads about dropping the charges.
