Hitler's childhood home is being converted into a police station. The house where Adolf Hitler was born has become a tourist attraction. Now the building is being completely renovated beyond recognition – to make room for the police.
The building is commonly referred to as the Hitler House and has stood in the town of Braunau am Inn since the 1600s, reports Austrian ORF. The Hitler family were tenants in the property for a short period before and after Hitler's birth. However, it has not been established that the birth itself took place in the part of the building that still stands.
In recent times, Nazis have, among other things, visited the site to lay wreaths. Austria's Ministry of the Interior now wants to stop this by making the house unrecognizable. The renovation is estimated to cost the equivalent of over 22 million euros. It will now be used as a police station. Watch the report on SVT News.
