Indonesia's new capital is inaugurated – to replace Jakarta. On Saturday, the first official ceremony was held in the city of Nusantara, which will soon replace Jakarta as the capital. On the island of Borneo in the Indonesian archipelago, a completely new city has been built in just a few years.
The reason for the change of capital is that Jakarta is about to be submerged. The problem has increased in recent years as the city has had problems with heavy rainfall, flooding and a rising sea level.
Some parts of the city are sinking by up to 30 centimeters a year. Parts of the city are expected to become uninhabitable as early as 2030, and several experts describe Jakarta, where almost 11 million people live, as the world's fastest declining metropolis. Watch the feature on SVT News.
