Nine out of ten forest fires are started by people. According to France's Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, at least 60 people have been arrested since the beginning of 2026 in investigations related to intentional or accidental fires, writes the French newspaper Le Monde. But climate change is making the fires bigger and more common. – We see that fires are increasing in scale, especially in intensity, but also in area.
