Broadcast license is being reviewed after Trump joke. In the midst of the feud between President Donald Trump and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, the U.S. communications authority FCC announces that the television network ABC's broadcast license is under review, reports The New York Times.
The review is extensive – it concerns all of ABC's broadcast licenses for more than 200 local stations across the country. The FCC states that the investigation relates to ABC's diversity and inclusion policy, but the timing is being questioned. On Monday, Trump demanded that Kimmel be fired due to a joke about the U.S. first lady having a 'future widow’s glow.'
ABC would not have needed to renew the licenses until 2028, but the FCC has a legal option to require the stations to reapply. Watch the segment on SVT Nyheter.
